The Eternal French
The project of an apartment in Moscow with furniture
and lighting by Christian Liaigre (Architect – Anastasia Merzlyakova)
To create a minimal modern interior with a large open space, which will look simple but at the same time elegant and interesting, usually takes a lot of time and efforts, because the “simpler” style, the harder it is to achieve perfection. But the owners of apartment in the house on Mosfilmovskaya had luck.
Panoramic penthouse of Skuratovskiy skyscraper, impressive windows of living room and bedroom with the views to the South-West of Moscow – it was immediately clear that this apartment should be decorated in luxurious but not pretentious way: the design had to meet the views but not to argue with them. It was intended for a young couple who has traveled the world, loves modern art and quality design.
Total area of 103 square meters, two rooms (bedroom and kitchen, hall and living room in one space) and two bathrooms – by Moscow standards the apartment is small. But that’s exactly the space that was necessary for the owners to create a “dream house”. The client is a businessman and a big fan of minimalism and contemporary art. He immediately realized that in his interior he wants to keep a balance of light, open space, architecture and furniture. This apartment, its location and layout, speak for themselves – it was obvious that they needed a minimum of furniture and textiles and a maximum of open space. The furniture should be relevant and artistic, yet elegant and discreet – different from that adopted in Moscow aesthetics of modern Italian design.
Just at the moment of interior concept development and search for appropriate materials and furniture the client got acquainted with the works of Christian Liaigre and it became clear that this is exactly what he needed for his interior.
Getting known better the philosophy of the brand, the owners began to explore Christian Liaigre projects, such as a showroom of the brand in London and a renowned restaurant Hakkasan on Mayfair. They fell in love with the work of the French designer. Exotic woods that he chooses, exquisite technique of brushing, the use of sophisticated lacquers made by the house Liaigre according to ancient Chinese technology, working with silk and with linen with the soft upholstery and patinated almost black bronze – every detail and feature of favorite furniture fit wonderfully in the project. Finally, the renovation and completion of the apartment took a little more than a year, began in may 2014 and ended in the summer of 2015. Everything works fine, when you know clearly what you want, and you manage to find the perfect embodiment of the desired.
